5 December 2018, Vienna - euRobotics and the Big Data Value Association signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the goal of increasing collaboration to boost AI progress in Europe at the ICT 2018: Imagine Digital - Connect Europe event organised by the European Commission and the Austrian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
Europe has a strong and growing economy in the areas of robotics and big data. Integrated value chains and the combination of technologies has the power to transform the economy as well as the society. To preserve European values while taking advantage of the technological developments, the responsible use of AI is crucial. In industrial environments, the integration of actual production steps or material handing with data driving the processes or being a result of it will increase the productivity, flexibility and quality.
Both associations identified common strategic goals, among them the use of AI in their respective areas. Therefore, the associations agreed to jointly work on several activities: developing strategic roadmaps and position papers, work towards maximizing benefit of relevant AI technologies in industrial and service sectors where the associations jointly operate, work together in pilots, demonstrators, and projects. Another relevant area of activity is the facilitation of standardization, as standards can act as enablers to the creation of novel business models and ecosystems.
Both associations represent the private side of a Public-Private Partnership with the European Commission, and provide input to and cooperate with the EC.
With the signature of this MoU euRobotics and BDVA are ready to take a step forward to strengthen collaboration towards a European AI partnership, leveraging on the community and outcomes from both the SPARC PPP and the Big Data Value PPP.

BDVA is the private counterpart to the EU Commission to implement the Big Data Value PPP program. BDVA and the Big Data Value PPP pursue a common shared vision of positioning Europe as the world leader in the creation of Big Data Value.
The mission of the BDVA is to develop the Innovation Ecosystem that will enable the data-driven digital transformation in Europe delivering maximum economic and societal benefit, and, achieving and sustaining Europe’s leadership on Big Data Value creation and Artificial Intelligence.
BDVA enables existing regional multi-partner cooperation, to collaborate at European level through the provision of tools and know-how to support the co-creation, development and experimentation of pan-European data-driven applications and services, and know-how exchange.
