Robotics activities in Malta

The Department of eLearning in collaboration with the Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of ICT within the Faculty of Education and the MCAST Foundation College are organizing various activities as part of the EU Robotics Week (#ERW2016) which will take place from the 19 – 27 November 2016. Various related activities will be held across Europe, highlighting the growing importance of robotics, coding and technology in our lives. Thus inspiring students of all ages to pursue careers in robotics and other Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math-related fields.

A free-robotics sessions for educators will focus on the WeDo robotic kits which are available in all state primary schools. In this hands on session, educators will be introduced to this resource whilst reflecting on how it might be used in the primary classroom. At the Faculty of Engineering, students will participate in a 1 ½ hour session consisting of a demonstration with the research robots in the Control Systems Laboratory of the University of Malta, and an interactive workshop where the students will program Lego Mindstorms robots to perform simple tasks shedding some light on the technologies that will lead to the robots of the future.
