Viewers will this week be able to watch a live feed of a robot competition in Lisbon, Portugal that will show how robots could in future provide domestic and healthcare services in everyday lives.
From today, viewers will be able to see five international teams taking part in a Major Tournament of the European Robotics League Service Robots (ERL-SR) competition on 29–31 August. The teams will tackle tasks such as supporting people with impaired mobility by welcoming visitors to someone’s home.
The ERL competition is intended to foster scientific progress and innovation in cognitive systems and robotics. ERL also runs industrial and emergency robot competitions.
The live feed from Lisbon will give viewers an idea of the potential future uses of robots for domestic and healthcare services. Viewers watching the teams will also learn more about the practical difficulties of providing robotics services, including tasks such as speech recognition and recognising objects.
The live stream of the ERL-SR event is available from 29 August 2017 on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCN4yqlfHQqM2PVvqqTMQkwg and will be available for viewing after the event. It will also be available after the event on the ERL website (www.robotics-league.eu).
