The symposium is a week long summit of robotics talks to commemorate the life of Prof. Dr. Gerhard K. Kraetzschmar (1961 — 2019). Experts in various fields of robotics, from around the world, and who have worked with Prof. Kraetzschmar for decades, will share key insights and their take on the current state of robotics. Watch all robotics workshops and talks from our SciRoc Camp via our YouTube channel (link below). #### A week-long summit of robotics workshops and talks for bringing together the robotics community across Europe. Last year we made a significant impact in the robotics community with the successful smart city SciRoc event. It saw the coming together of 3 different and distinct robotics community (Consumer, Professional and Emergency) and competing. We would like to ride on this success and expand the reach of the competition to a larger audience around Europe. The best way to do this will be to bring together our robotics community under a single roof where teams can share their problems and help each other in solving them. In order to boost this community building event we have week long camp where research labs and industry experts from all the different fields of robotics come together and share their experiences. The Gerhard K. Kraetzschmar Memorial Symposium and the SciRoc Camp will be held from Monday, 21 September to Friday, 25 September, 2020. The SciRoc Camp is an online event for sharing information on advances in robotics benchmarks. The event aims to connect robotics benchmark developers and robotics researchers around the world. At this camp, the world’s top robotics teams will share their latest results through a webcast. The full schedule of speakers and live stream are available via the Google website link on this page. |

Catch up now and watch the best moments of each FBM, together with verbal explanations and the RSBB operation, as well as the full record of the live stream via our YouTube channel (link below). #### Due to the pandemic situation, the European Robotics League (ERL) Consumer Lisbon Local Tournament planned for this coming week within the frame of the H2020 SciRoc project, will not take place. Nevertheless, the local SocRob@Home team will go ahead with a sequence of real test demos (not counting for awards and/or Season rankings) on the newly introduced (but not tested before) Functionality Benchmarks FBMs 4-6 (on people detection and following, and on object manipulation). This will be streamed live via our YouTube channel. * Due to the COVID-19 outbreak our entire 2020/21 ERL season has been postponed until 2022.* We are pleased to announce that the Bristol Robotics Laboratory (BRL), Bristol, UK will host the first ERL Consumer local tournament of the ERL 2022 Season (postponed from 2020/21). The BRL is a collaborative partnership between the University of the West of England and the University of Bristol. The first HEART-MET field campaign will take place at the Cobot Maker Space at the University of Nottingham from May 23 - 27, 2022. The competition is organized by HEART-MET under the METRICS framework, and includes a shared benchmark with the European Robotics League (ERL) Professional competition. HEART-MET targets robots that function in an assistive capacity in a home, or healthcare environment such as a nursing home or hospital. ERL Professional (https://old.eu-robotics.net/robotics_league/erl-professional/about/index.html) is a competition framework for mobile robot assistants in professional settings such as factories, grocery stores, hospitals etc. Typical tasks include locating and transporting items and performing collaborative tasks with humans. Therefore, this competition will benchmark robots on several perception, manipulation and human-robot interaction tasks. ### Important Dates ### 12th April, 2022 - Deadline for submission of expression of interest 25th April, 2022 - Deadline to confirm participation 23nd May, 2022 - Competition start 27th May, 2022 - Competition end ### How to participate ### Teams and individuals from academia and industry are welcome to participate in this competition. Based on the level of interest, some benchmarks may not be conducted during the competition. Each benchmark will be evaluated over multiple trials with several variations of objects, locations, persons, time of day etc. FBMs: - Object detection: The robot should detect a target object on a surface in front of it - Person detection: The robot should detect a person at a known location within an indoor environment - Activity recognition: The robot should recognize an activity performed by a person - Gesture recognition: The robot should recognize a gesture performed by a person - Cluttered Pick [shared with ERL Professional]: The robot should pick an object from a cluttered surface and place it in a container - Handover Object: The robot should hand over an object to a person - Receive Object: The robot should receive an object from a person TBMs: - Assess Activity State: The robot should assess the activity state of a person using both visual activity recognition and by engaging in a dialogue with the person. This TBM will require the robot to navigate within an indoor environment, detect persons, visually recognize activities and engage in a dialogue by speech generation and recognition. - Item Delivery: The robot should navigate to a given location, locate and grasp a target object, transport the object to a person at a given location and hand over the object to the person. Hence, this TBM will require functionalities such as indoor navigation, object detection, grasping, person detection and object handover. * Due to the COVID-19 outbreak our entire 2020/21 ERL season has been postponed until 2022.* It is our pleasure to announce a new edition of ERL Emergency competition to take place in Poznan (Poland) 20-25 June 2022. The European Robotics League (ERL) is an innovative concept for robot competitions which stems from its predecessors, the euRathlon and RoCKIn competitions, and focuses on tasks that robots must execute in realistic environments. The ERL is composed of multiple Local Tournaments, held in different locations across Europe, and a few competitions as part of Major Tournaments. Teams participate in the tournaments (Local and/or Major) each year and get scores based on their performances. Scores of the best participation in tournaments for each team are added and teams are ranked based on their cumulative score. Prizes for the top teams are awarded during the next year’s European Robotics Forum (ERF). Moreover, participating teams in the 2020/2021 Season are candidates to take part in the Major ERL Smart City tournament in the Fall 2021. * Due to the COVID-19 outbreak our entire 2020/21 ERL season has been postponed until 2022.* We are pleased to announce the first Robotics for Asset Maintenance and Inspection (RAMI) Marine Robots competition that will be held at the NATO STO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE), La Spezia, Italy, from 10 to 15 July 2022. Organized in the framework of the METRICS EU project (https://metricsproject.eu/), the competition is part of the European Robotics League (ERL) Emergency season 2021-2022. RAMI Marine Robots will include underwater robots working in an outdoor realistic environment. We will challenge the autonomy and cooperation of robotic systems in an Inspection & Maintenance scenario. A higher level of autonomy will be rewarded in the scoring. The CMRE protected seawater basin will host the activities of the Autonomous Underwater Robots.
