ERL Consumer Service Robots is a competition that aims at bringing together the benefits of scientific benchmarking with the attraction of scientific competitions in the field of consumer service robotics. The objectives are to bolster research in consumer service robotics for home applications, and to raise public awareness of the current and future capabilities of such robot systems to meet societal challenges like healthy ageing and longer independent living. Currently, ERL Consumer raises challenges in domestic environments that resemble similar challenges to be posed in smart city environments (e.g. shopping malls), such as recognising and picking objects, moving outside the home to populated areas, and/or taking elevators between doors. ERL Consumer local tournaments aim to prepare teams for SciRoc, the ERL Smart Cities Challenge. For more information visit the competition website: https://sites.google.com/site/erlsriros2018/ |
Target audience Audience: Participants include undergraduate students, Master and PhD students, postdocs, researchers from universities/organisations and engineers from industry companies around the world. The event is open for the general public during the competition days. Participant Teams: ● everBot: Everis (Madrid, Spain) ● HEARTS: Bristol Robotics Lab (Bristol, UK) ● IRI@ERL: Institut de Robòtica i Informàtica Industrial CSIC-UPC (Barcelona, Spain) ● MachiniLog: Bahria University (Islamabad, Pakistan) ● Outsiders: Universidad de León (León, Spain) ● PUMAS: UNAM (Mexico) ● SocRob: Institute for Systems and Robotics ISR (Lisbon, Portugal) ● Team Robotics Lab Uc3M: Universidad Carlos III UC3M (Madrid, Spain) |

The ERL Consumer Service Robots competition is holding a local tournament in Edinburgh from the 3rd to the 7th of December 2018 at the Heriot-Watt@Home Test Bed (Heriot-Watt University). The "European Robotics League- Consumer Service Robots" is an innovative concept for robot competitions which stems from its predecessor, the RoCKIn@Home competition, and focuses on tasks that service robots execute in a real home environment. The ERL Consumer is composed of multiple "Local Tournaments", held in different research labs across Europe, with certified test beds, and a few "Major Tournaments". Teams participate in a minimum of two Tournaments (Local and/or Major) per year and get scores based on their performances. Scores of the best two participation in tournaments for each team are added and teams are ranked based on their cumulative score. Prizes for the top teams are awarded during the next year’s European Robotics Forum (ERF). This tournament is part of the ERL Season 2018-2019. Open call for international teams interested on consumer service robotics. A maximum of 3 teams will be selected from the received applications. ERL Consumer Service Robots is a competition that aims at bringing together the benefits of scientific benchmarking with the attraction of scientific competitions in the field of consumer service robotics. The objectives are to bolster research in consumer service robotics for home applications, and to raise public awareness of the current and future capabilities of such robot systems to meet societal challenges like healthy ageing, longer independent living and facilitating home care. The IDEAAL Testbed at OFFIS Institute for Information Technology in Oldenburg, Germany, is a new addition to the league. It is probably the most realistic environment of the competition, practically indistinguishable from a real apartment. It contains a fully working kitchen and bathroom, including interior design chosen by a panel of elderly people. A team area is available in conference rooms nearby. The runs can be monitored through IP cameras from the team area and a dedicated monitoring center. Open call for international teams interested on consumer service robotics. A maximum of 3 teams will be selected from the received applications.
