Robotics for Young Children
Show details
Young children are curious about the world around them, and today that world includes coding, robotics and engineering. Integrating robotics into early childhood education helps close gender and other gaps in achievement in STEAM fields. With robotics, children’s code affects the physical world – the robot moves and reacts based on the instructions the children give it. We will use Cubetto - a wooden robot that wants to be told where to go and how to get there.

Bee Bot Workshop 2021
Show details
With the help of Bee Bots, children will learn basic programming and algorithms, develop their logical thinking, fine motor skills, communication skills, enrich their vocabulary, develop spatial orientation, attention, memory and creativity.

The themed backgrounds on which the Bee Bots move are divided into several square fields. Individual fields are marked with different pictorial representations (geometric shapes, letters, numbers, continents, nature, etc.). Children are given the task of programming a Bee Bot to get from point A to point B and the robot is controlled using the buttons located on the back of the bee. After the child programs the Bee Bot, the robot independently moves from one location to another. Children interact with the Bee Bot through keys (manual programming, eg. up, down, left, right, pause, go) and visually master the paths and mazes along which the programmed robots move. From the original simple solutions (eg. "Bring the bee from the flower to the hive") to more complex tasks (eg. "The bee should come out of the hive, then take it to the meadow, pick up the pollen and finally take it through the beekeeper to the jar of honey “). After a certain time of use, children begin to understand the algorithms around them and are increasingly advanced in their learning and creation. This way of learning and teaching is very interesting because it takes place through play and children learn situationally, spontaneously and naturally. Since programming is teamwork, through this game children learn communication skills, teamwork efficiency and how to celebrate successfully solved tasks with common rules, agreements and solutions.

Arduino workshop
Show details
Simply put, Arduino is a micro-controller. This small computer is used as the brain of the robot. It can be programmed to control the way buttons, motors, switches, lights, and other electronic parts work together. Arduino is hands-on, which is one of the many reasons it’s appealing to kids. It can be plugged into your computer. You can write a program on the computer and send it to the Arduino.

When kids start to use Arduino, they quickly learn that robotics is all around us. While it’s interesting to learn about electronics and how they work, it’s even better when you get to try it for yourself. When kids use Arduino at MakerKids, they get to build their own projects. They get to see what works and what doesn’t work and how to problem-solve in the process.

Encouraging and promoting the overall activities of technical culture is emphasized as the primary activity City of Split Association of Technical Culture. Robotics workshops are held throughout the year in the premises of ZTK, and as part of certain events, robotics workshops are "moved" to educational institutions. This workshop was held with students of the fourth and fifth grade of primary school, as one of the workshops within the Festival of Technical Culture.
Outcomes of robotics workshops relate to the acceptance of rules for safe and ethical application and use of robots, rational and appropriate use of existing materials, resources and energy in the environment, research on the importance of development and maintenance of technical production systems, computer skills processes and their background logic, noticing the potential and dangers of working with various devices, developing technical skills and critical thinking and seeing the bigger picture of robotic and automatic systems. Given that we live in a world where information and communication technology is developing every day, it is important to introduce children to technology as early as possible, so that they can learn to use it for useful purposes.
