Robotics Forum Seminar - Medical Robots
Show details
Abstract
The talk will discuss the transition from open, to minimally invasive and non-invasive surgery, and how this necessitates the development of medical robots. The state-of-the art and innovative developments in the field will be presented. Advances in artificial intelligence offer great promise towards automation in robotic surgery, which however pose significant practical, ethical and legal concerns. To this end, novel “human in the loop” approaches based on advanced human-robot interfaces are proposed.

Bio
George has a background in Mechatronics and Computer Science and is leading the Human-centred Automation, Robotics and Automation in Surgery -HARMS- lab, at the Department of Surgery and Cancer and Hamlyn Centre, Imperial College London. Research at the HARMS lab is underpinned by a Human-Centred paradigm. The main goals of this paradigm can be broadly identified: (a) Patient- and surgeon-specific designs with the aim to minimize and eliminate invasiveness, optimise outcomes, improve ergonomics and promote personalisation; (b) Frugal innovation to provide affordable surgical technologies, allow infrastructure re-purposing and small theatre footprint; (c) Perceptually-enabled functionalities to improve ergonomics, reduce mental fatigue, facilitate automation and increase safety; (d) Enabling technologies able to introduce radical change, and augment performance and capabilities by making robotic surgery attainable and accessible; (e) Disruptive innovation that pushes the boundaries by proposing new paradigms in minimally invasive surgery.

Robotiikkayhdistyksen ja Automaatioseuran yhteistyössä järjestämässä webinaari, teemana yhteistyörobotiikka (Collaborative Robots) 11.11. klo 16-17

OHJELMA

Avaus & yleistä yhteistyörobotiikasta
Jyrki Latokartano, puheenjohtaja, Suomen Robotiikkayhdistys ry

Yhteistyörobotiikka pelastaa Suomen teollisuuden?
Yhteistyöroboteista on povattu ratkaisua lähes kaikkiin automatisoidun tuotannon ongelmiin.

Antti Lumme, Universal Robots

Joustavasta automaatiosta tukea tuotantoon

From PPE to Spacesuits #4: Clothing as Life Support - Soft Robotics
Show details
Garments have allowed us to operate in climates and environments that our bodies are not made for – the extreme cold and hot cycles in spacewalks and in hospitals with infectious diseases. A spacesuit is a life support system. For most terrestrial applications, life support systems are used by patients who are too ill to sustain life on their own. In space, life support systems are used by the super fit – astronauts. Could we design better life support systems for the sick by learning from the designs we have for the super fit? Could the design of peri-operative wearables spark new ideas for the next generation of spacesuits as we head for surface missions and commercial crew operations?

Join us online for 1 hour of inspiration and deep insights. Our exciting line up of panellists will present their ideas and include a panellists discussion linking to moderated Q&A’s with your input.

Macchine che decidono, e come renderle democratiche
Show details

9th Forum Robot-assisted Assembly - Live Webinar in German
Show details
Nowadays, assembly is mainly done manually. The reasons for this are, on the one hand, the available automation solutions, which are often not sufficiently flexible or can only be set up and converted in a time-consuming manner. On the other hand, the joining processes themselves are demanding, because they can have, for example, parts that are slack in bending, large supply and part tolerances, low joining tolerances or complex joining strategies.

Megatrends such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) provide new automation possibilities. At the same time, however, the requirements with regard to flexibility and cost-effectiveness of an automation solution are also increasing, so that more personalized products can be produced.

The Robot-Assisted Assembly Forum shows how these automation obstacles can be overcome with new technological developments and solutions. These include not only the aforementioned AI and many associated aids, but also innovative tools, sensor-guided joining processes or intelligent assembly concepts, which will be presented in detail. The solutions presented will be demonstrated by means of relevant industrial applications.

Target audience
The forum is aimed at specialists and managers from assembly and assembly planning as well as plant manufacturers and system integrators of assembly technology. Forum's language is German.

Bee Bot Workshop
Show details
With the help of Bee Bots, children will learn basic programming and algorithms, develop their logical thinking, fine motor skills, communication skills, enrich their vocabulary, develop spatial orientation, attention, memory and creativity.

The themed backgrounds on which the Bee Bots move are divided into several square fields. Individual fields are marked with different pictorial representations (geometric shapes, letters, numbers, continents, nature, etc.). Children are given the task of programming a Bee Bot to get from point A to point B and the robot is controlled using the buttons located on the back of the bee. After the child programs the Bee Bot, the robot independently moves from one location to another. Children interact with the Bee Bot through keys (manual programming, eg. up, down, left, right, pause, go) and visually master the paths and mazes along which the programmed robots move. From the original simple solutions (eg. "Bring the bee from the flower to the hive") to more complex tasks (eg. "The bee should come out of the hive, then take it to the meadow, pick up the pollen and finally take it through the beekeeper to the jar of honey “). After a certain time of use, children begin to understand the algorithms around them and are increasingly advanced in their learning and creation. This way of learning and teaching is very interesting because it takes place through play and children learn situationally, spontaneously and naturally. Since programming is teamwork, through this game children learn communication skills, teamwork efficiency and how to celebrate successfully solved tasks with common rules, agreements and solutions.

Gli Stati Generali della Robotica Collaborativa
Show details

Big Data for Robotics
Show details
This talk will focus on the employment of Big Data infrastructures that we have leveraged for Human-Robot-Interaction. Several use cases and projects have already been developed on top of NAO/Zora, a completely programmable and autonomous humanoid robot, and they aim at allowing NAO/Zora to interact with humans using natural language for different tasks. Example use cases allow the robot:
1) talking to the user and understanding his/her sentiments by using a dedicated Semantic Sentiment Analysis engine;
2) generating answers to open-dialog natural language utterances through a Generative Conversational Agent;
3) performing action commands depending on open-dialog natural language utterances and a Robot Action ontology;
4) identifying which objects the user is showing to the robot cameras by using convolutional neural networks trained on a huge collection of annotated objects;
5) integrating Google Assistant technologies within NAO/Zora to experience a much more natural interaction with the robot;
playing with NAO/Zora;
6) using NAO/Zora to control smart objects. The source code of each use case is publicly available in repositories and dedicated videos show how they work.

Target audience

Quali responsabilità devono rimanere in capo agli esseri umani?

Show details
come clienti Fiat, Airbus, Iveco, Volkswagen, Ford, Bosh, Caterpillar, Boing , ecc.
Academy di Grugliasco (TO).
industriale, già abilitati come formatori/esaminatori (solo 32 professionisti in tutta Italia)

CNC e robotica integrati in macchina
Show details
Registrazione richiesta tramite format online.

Relatrice

How to Teach ROS & Robotics Online with ZOOM – and 2 more Solutions! FREE ONLINE WEBINAR
Show details
Learn the Methodology and Solutions for Teaching ROS & Robotics during Lockdown.

Affected by the pandemic lockdown, many universities have been forced to close and move their courses online. Some have even announced the continuation of online courses through 2021.

You can teach almost any subject online. However, some subjects are going to be more productive online than others. For instance, you can teach medical students online about all the illnesses of the lungs. However, there is a part of that teaching that involves the interaction with actual ill people. That is very difficult to provide through online teaching.

In robotics, something similar happens. How can we ensure that students learn and practice their robot knowledge over the Internet? How can we provide students with the same full learning experience as when we teach them with a real robot? And how can we keep track of students’ learning progress and evaluate results…? These are the challenges for a robotics teacher.

In this FREE webinar, we are going to show you how to teach ROS & Robotics online with ZOOM, and we will provide you with two additional solutions.

Human-Centric Robotics: focusing on robotics for assistance and collaboration with humans
Show details
Keywords: human-centric robotics, assistive robotics, ELS issues

Description
Research and applications on and of assistive robots are growing, motivated by the demand for robots that can assist and even collaborate with the older people, children, disabled people and in general that can contribute to human wellbeing, understood in a general sense, not only as physical wellbeing (relief from difficult or dangerous operations), also wellbeing linked to social relations, to the wealth of communication, to the possibility of coming into contact with the people (Cooney MD, Nishio S., Ishiguro H., 2015). Furthermore, it is a while that “Human-Centric” is a sort of key modificator associated with any recent scientific development, from here our attempt at giving semantics to such modificator in the case of Robotics starting with this workshop but further on with follow up actions triggered by the workshop.
These aspects and motivation in the design and implementation of assistive robots highlight the need to give these robots complex functions, including the ability to identify the human to assist or collaborate with, to understand the language, to take into account the cultural differences among people, and to avoid bias and stereotypes that could introduce serious errors.
Several research and application projects show a good level of acceptance of robots by children and adults. Even when the functions of a robot could have been performed by a digital system (camera, tablet, smartphone), robots’ applications used in the case of patients suffering from COVID-19 and therefore in isolation showed patients’ preference for the physical form of humanoid robots.
The most recent studies on assistive robotics concern those specific characteristics that can give rise to emotions and eliciting attachment and affection in humans, based on studies about human communicating and robot interface, on cases of enjoyable and affectionate interactions with robots.
The workshop will present theoretical elements and application aspects, including the research of the Caresses project (Culture-Aware Robots and Environmental Sensor Systems for Elderly Support), an international multidisciplinary project whose aim is to develop the first elderly care robot able to adapt the way it speaks and behaves to the culture of the person assisted; applications of humanoid robots for patient care of COVID-19 in isolation (Omitech), the SI-Robotics project that is currently pursuing the integration of Collaborative Robots, AI technologies and innovative sensors to pursue new strategies for social assistance, and some cases of the use of humanoid robots to assist companies with cognitive problems (School of Robotics).
Moreover, since research and applications on assistive robots concern a very complex and sensitive human sphere, it is necessary that studies are complemented by a thorough analysis of ethical and legal aspects.

Informazioni sull'evento

Robotica collaborativa a distanza: matematica, logica e problem solving
Show details

Robotics vanguardist has been based its new developments in many different behaviors abstracted from nature, a clear example of this is collective or cooperative robotics, which aims to design teams of robots with the ability to solve problems operating similarly to a hive, involving dynamic environments with changing conditions for perception. I our project we work three phases, an initial phase where we create a little group of robot to go through a matrix finding the best path until find the food, a second phase where we design a virtual enviroment where we can see how the ACO Algorithm works, in this enviroment we can change many diferent variables and the inteligence there can find the optimal path, and the last phase is the comunication between this enviroment and a phisical robot, when the intelligence in the virtual enviroment learn and choose what is the best path send the information to the robot and the robot can replicate the behavior in a real enviroment.
