Due to the pandemic situation, the European Robotics League (ERL) Consumer Lisbon Local Tournament planned for this coming week within the frame of the H2020 SciRoc project, will not take place.

Nevertheless, the local SocRob@Home team will go ahead with a sequence of real test demos (not counting for awards and/or Season rankings) on the newly introduced (but not tested before) Functionality Benchmarks FBMs 4-6 (on people detection and following, and on object manipulation). This will be streamed live via our YouTube channel.

We are pleased to announce that the Bristol Robotics Laboratory (BRL), Bristol, UK will host the first ERL Consumer local tournament of the ERL 2022 Season (postponed from 2020/21). The BRL is a collaborative partnership between the University of the West of England and the University of Bristol. The tournament will be hosted in the BRL’s Personalised Assisted Living Studio which is certified for use as an ERL Consumer Service Robots testbed.

The first HEART-MET field campaign will take place at the Cobot Maker Space at the University of Nottingham from May 23 - 27, 2022.

The competition is organized by HEART-MET under the METRICS framework, and includes a shared benchmark with the European Robotics League (ERL) Professional competition. HEART-MET targets robots that function in an assistive capacity in a home, or healthcare environment such as a nursing home or hospital. ERL Professional (https://old.eu-robotics.net/robotics_league/erl-professional/about/index.html) is a competition framework for mobile robot assistants in professional settings such as factories, grocery stores, hospitals etc. Typical tasks include locating and transporting items and performing collaborative tasks with humans. Therefore, this competition will benchmark robots on several perception, manipulation and human-robot interaction tasks.

### Benchmarks ###
Teams can participate in any or all of the following functional (FBM) and task (TBM) benchmarks. Based on the level of interest, some benchmarks may not be conducted during the competition.
Each benchmark will be evaluated over multiple trials with several variations of objects, locations, persons, time of day etc.

FBMs:
- Object detection: The robot should detect a target object on a surface in front of it
- Person detection: The robot should detect a person at a known location within an indoor environment
- Activity recognition: The robot should recognize an activity performed by a person
- Gesture recognition: The robot should recognize a gesture performed by a person
- Cluttered Pick [shared with ERL Professional]: The robot should pick an object from a cluttered surface and place it in a container
- Handover Object: The robot should hand over an object to a person
- Receive Object: The robot should receive an object from a person

TBMs:
- Assess Activity State: The robot should assess the activity state of a person using both visual activity recognition and by engaging in a dialogue with the person. This TBM will require the robot to navigate within an indoor environment, detect persons, visually recognize activities and engage in a dialogue by speech generation and recognition.
- Item Delivery: The robot should navigate to a given location, locate and grasp a target object, transport the object to a person at a given location and hand over the object to the person. Hence, this TBM will require functionalities such as indoor navigation, object detection, grasping, person detection and object handover.

It is our pleasure to announce a new edition of ERL Emergency competition to take place in Poznan (Poland) 20-25 June 2022.

The European Robotics League (ERL) is an innovative concept for robot competitions which stems from its predecessors, the euRathlon and RoCKIn competitions, and focuses on tasks that robots must execute in realistic environments. The ERL is composed of multiple Local Tournaments, held in different locations across Europe, and a few competitions as part of Major Tournaments. Teams participate in the tournaments (Local and/or Major) each year and get scores based on their performances.

Scores of the best participation in tournaments for each team are added and teams are ranked based on their cumulative score. Prizes for the top teams are awarded during the next year’s European Robotics Forum (ERF). Moreover, participating teams in the 2020/2021 Season are candidates to take part in the Major ERL Smart City tournament in the Fall 2021. As part of the 2020/2021 Season, and after the success of ERL Emergency competition in February 2019, we are pleased to announce a new tournament of the ERL Emergency challenge, to be held in Poznan (Poland) in June 2022.

For 2020/2021 ERL Emergency, the competition wishes to foster advanced developments on autonomous capabilities and seamless outdoor/indoor navigation for air and land robots, as these are important milestones to achieve for emergency robotic systems.

The "European Robotics League- Consumer Service Robots" is an innovative concept for robot competitions which stems from its predecessor, the RoCKIn@Home competition, and focuses on tasks that service robots execute in a real home environment.

The ERL Consumer is composed of multiple "Local Tournaments", held in different research labs across Europe, with certified test beds, and a few "Major Tournaments". We are pleased to announce the first Robotics for Asset Maintenance and Inspection (RAMI) Marine Robots competition that will be held at the NATO STO Centre for Maritime Research and Experimentation (CMRE), La Spezia, Italy, from 10 to 15 July 2022.

Organized in the framework of the METRICS EU project (https://metricsproject.eu/), the competition is part of the European Robotics League (ERL) Emergency season 2021-2022.

RAMI Marine Robots will include underwater robots working in an outdoor realistic environment. We will challenge the autonomy and cooperation of robotic systems in an Inspection & Maintenance scenario. A higher level of autonomy will be rewarded in the scoring. The CMRE protected seawater basin will host the activities of the Autonomous Underwater Robots.

Some of the tasks/functionalities that will be challenged are:
- autonomous underwater navigation;
- underwater pipes and structure inspection;
- object recognition;
- adaptive mission planning;
- underwater manipulation;
